Lazatin admin completes solar panel installations in barangay halls, city buildings

Under the leadership of Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr., the city has successfully completed the installation of solar panels in all 33 barangay halls and various city government buildings, marking a significant milestone in the city’s push for clean energy and cost-efficient electricity.

This initiative reflects Mayor Lazatin’s unwavering commitment to renewable energy, reducing energy expenses, and promoting environmental sustainability within the city.

“The installation of solar panels in all barangay halls and city buildings is a crucial step towards enhancing energy efficiency and ensuring continuous service delivery for our residents,” Mayor Lazatin stated. “This effort not only reduces electricity costs but also helps us move closer to a greener, more self-sufficient Angeles City. By harnessing solar power, we are cutting operational expenses while contributing to a cleaner environment for future generations.”

As his term nears its conclusion in 91 days, Mayor Lazatin reaffirmed his commitment to continuing projects that benefit Angeleños, ensuring that his administration’s promises are fully realized until his final day in office.

Engr. Giovanni Aquino, head of the City Engineer’s Office Electrical Division, reported that key city buildings—including the main government building, the City Social Welfare and Development Office, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Angeles City, City College of Angeles, and Belen Homesite Elementary School—are now all powered by solar energy.

Solar panel installations are also set for the Rafael Lazatin Memorial Medical Center and the City Library, according to Engr. Aquino.

For the barangay halls, solar panel installations have been tailored to meet each barangay’s specific energy needs. “We’ve assessed the electricity usage in each barangay to determine the appropriate number of solar panels,” Engr. Aquino explained. “Our goal is to maximize efficiency, ensuring solar power can support essential operations and reduce reliance on conventional energy sources.”

Of the 33 barangays, 28 have already completed their solar panel installations, while the remaining five are still in the process.

To ensure optimal performance, the city has trained personnel to oversee both the installation and ongoing maintenance of the solar panels.

This solar initiative builds on previous efforts by the city, which included the installation of solar panels at the city hall and solar-powered streetlights along major roads. Additionally, Angeles City became the first in Pampanga and Central Luzon to introduce a solar-powered public school.

Mayor Lazatin has also rolled out numerous environmental programs, such as the reforestation of the 560-hectare watershed in Barangay Sapangbato, the Bilis Walis street sweeper project, and a tree-planting initiative in the Angeles City Watershed.

Moreover, the Mayor’s office launched the ‘Walang Plastikan’ Plastic for Rice program, supervised by Chief Adviser IC Calaguas and Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel.

Furthering his commitment to sustainability, Mayor Lazatin also spearheaded the construction of a P41-million solid waste management transfer facility, enforced waste segregation practices, and established a wastewater treatment facility at the Pampang Public Market.

Additionally, the ‘Pogi Ya Ing Barangay Ku’ program—a competition aimed at promoting environmental management, peace and order, and disaster risk reduction—has encouraged barangays to enhance their community management and sustainable practices.
