The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) have joined forces to repair the damaged dike road in Barangay Sta. Rita, Lubao, Pampanga, following urgent calls from Governor Lilia “Nanay” Pineda.
DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan personally inspected the damaged site on Thursday, accompanied by Provincial Engineering Office Head Engr. Noli Pangan, PG-ENRO Head Arthur Punsalan, and officials from the DPWH Regional Office and NIA.
Secretary Bonoan agreed with Governor Pineda’s concerns, stressing the risk of severe flooding in Lubao if immediate action is not taken.
“Critical nga talaga kung hindi natin mabigyan ng lunas kaagad. But rest assured that this will be attended to by the government, including NIA and DPWH,” he said.
He assured that NIA is ready to repair and rehabilitate the affected sections of the dike in partnership with the provincial government. Other damaged dikes in Floridablanca and Guagua are also under repair.
Secretary Bonoan also expressed support for Governor Pineda’s push for large-scale desilting of rivers, particularly the Pampanga River.
“I agree completely with the good Governor — kailangan talaga natin ng dredging at desilting ng mga ilog, hindi lang dito sa Pampanga kundi sa buong bansa,” he added.
Coordination among DPWH, NIA, and the Provincial Government continues to ensure swift and effective infrastructure rehabilitation across Pampanga.
