Senator Manuel “Lito” M. Lapid inaugurated the new P370-million municipal hall in Barangay Cangatba, Porac, on Tuesday. The event was warmly welcomed by local residents, and the municipal government expressed deep gratitude for Lapid’s efforts in securing funding for the project.
Mayor Myla B. Clarete thanked Lapid, a native of Porac, for his support in providing the funds for the construction. The municipal hall, built with funding from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), began construction in 2021. The municipal seat has been relocated from Barangay Poblacion to the new site, following Municipal Ordinance No. 01, Series of 2025.
The new municipal hall, inspired by the U.S. Library of Congress, sits on a three-hectare property donated by the family of the late Vice Mayor Genaro M. Dimalanta. The site will eventually house additional government offices, with the newly inaugurated Porac Police Station as part of the complex.
The construction of the hall is one of many infrastructure projects in Porac supported by Lapid, who is running for re-election in May.
Lapid, a former Pampanga governor, has authored numerous impactful laws during his tenure in the Senate, including the Free Legal Assistance Act, Meat Labeling Act, and the Urban Agriculture Act. As Chair of the Senate Committee on Games, Amusement, and Sports, he has also been a strong advocate for grassroots sports development.
In a show of unity for Porac, Lapid’s family is now allied with the Pinedas, who will support local candidate Michael “Mike” Tapang in the upcoming mayoral race. Tapang emphasized that the Lapid and Pineda families, along with other political leaders, are united to restore Porac’s dignity and drive local development following the POGO scandal.
Lapid’s supporters are hopeful that this new political alignment will usher in a new era of progress for Porac.
