US Marine Corps opens Warehouse for Humanitarian Operations in Subic Freeport

The Subic Bay Freeport has become a key staging area for United States Marine Corps humanitarian aid and disaster relief efforts, with the opening of a new warehouse facility at the Naval Supply Depot on Tuesday.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new facility was led by Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) Director Cecille Bitare and US Marine Corps Col. Luke Watson. The warehouse will serve as a storage site for humanitarian and disaster relief equipment.

Bitare shared that the warehouse is owned and constructed by Amerasia International Terminal Services Inc., in collaboration with Anglicotech Philippines and KBR Overseas Inc. The leased area includes 2,200 square meters of open space and 3,100 square meters of warehouse space, with two quonsets dedicated to the US Marine Corps. The lease arrangement will also generate revenue for the SBMA through Amerasia’s business operations.

Col. Watson, commanding officer of Blount Island Command, explained that the facility will allow the Marine Corps to preposition essential equipment for humanitarian aid and disaster relief operations across the Indo-Pacific region.

“This site will serve as one of our ashore locations for humanitarian aid and disaster relief. As part of the Marine Corps’ global prepositioning network, it will store equipment such as motor transportation, communication gear, and engineering tools—without any ammunition,” Watson clarified.

The Blount Island Command, based in Jacksonville, Florida, plans to use the Subic facility to store relief materials for Indo-Pacific operations. Watson also met with SBMA Chairman and Administrator Eduardo Jose L. Aliño to discuss port operations and strategies to ensure the facility becomes an efficient logistics hub.

Chairman Aliño voiced strong support for the initiative, calling it a significant development for the Subic Bay Freeport in aiding foreign allies’ efforts to provide humanitarian assistance in the Indo-Pacific region. He emphasized that Subic Bay Freeport is one of the most strategically located areas in the country for deploying aid, further solidifying its role as a vital logistics hub for both maritime and aviation industries.
