The Freeport Area of Bataan (FAB) took center stage this weekend with the highly anticipated 5150 FAB Recon Race, a prelude to the inaugural 5150 FAB Triathlon set for 2025. The simulation event, held on December 7-8, invited elite triathletes to experience the course and the stunning landscapes of Bataan, building excitement for what’s to come.

This invitational recon race highlights the Freeport Area of Bataan’s potential as a premier venue for high-profile sporting events. The course, starting at the Camaya Coast and culminating at the FAB Administration Building, showcased a unique blend of scenic coastal roads and lush greenery, complemented by top-tier amenities.

FAB Administrator and CEO Hussein Pangandaman expressed pride in hosting the prestigious triathlon: “This event underscores the Freeport Area of Bataan’s capacity to host world-class sports events. Sports tourism plays a vital role in our region’s growth, and we are thrilled to welcome athletes and visitors from across the globe. This race is a significant step in showcasing our world-class facilities and vibrant community spirit.”

The recon race also serves as a milestone in the Authority of the Freeport Area of Bataan’s (AFAB) 55th anniversary celebration in 2025, promising an economic boost to local businesses, hotels, restaurants, and tourism services.

Ms. Princess Galura, president of Sunrise Events Inc., the organizer of the 5150 FAB series, emphasized the importance of the simulation event: “This recon race provides athletes with an immersive experience, allowing them to prepare for the adrenaline and excitement of the full 5150 FAB event. It’s not just a race but a celebration of fitness and community.”

The race brought together top-tier triathletes, including Ani de Leon Brown, celebrating 30 years in the sport; Kim Mangrobang of Next Step Tri, marking 20 years; and Faith Garcia of Century Trihard, commemorating a decade in triathlon.

They were joined by athletes from renowned teams such as Go for Gold, Tri SND Barracuda, Sante Barley, Isabela Tri, Fit PH, and more, making the event a showcase of skill and camaraderie.

Adding to the weekend’s excitement, the 5KM FAB Run invited FAB employees and locators to participate in a fun and accessible fitness activity. The event celebrated community spirit and fitness, offering casual joggers and walkers a chance to enjoy the scenic routes of the Freeport Area of Bataan.

The 5150 FAB Triathlon is part of the year-long IRONMAN 5150 Triathlon and Sunrise Sprint series, which features short but challenging triathlon courses across stunning venues. Designed for both newcomers and seasoned athletes, the series combines accessibility with excitement.
