An eight-year-old girl from Sto. Tomas, Pampanga, successfully underwent open-heart surgery after receiving medical assistance through the Alagang Nanay Preventive Health Care Program with support from Nanay Partylist.
Baby Raizel, daughter of 28-year-old Dolores Basilio, underwent the procedure on August 26 to treat a Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD), a congenital heart condition involving a hole in the wall separating the heart’s chambers.
The surgery and hospital expenses reached an estimated ₱650,000, but the family incurred no payment after the costs were covered through the assistance of Pampanga Gov. Lilia “Nanay” Pineda, Vice Gov. Dennis “Delta” Pineda and Nanay Partylist.
During their visit to Vice Gov. Delta on Monday, Basilio personally expressed her gratitude to those who helped make her daughter’s surgery possible.
She thanked God, the Pinedas and Nanay Partylist for covering the procedure and allowing the family to leave the hospital with zero balance.
Basilio also expressed hope that the program would continue helping more families in need of medical care.
The successful operation highlights the continuing efforts under the Alagang Nanay program to provide access to critical medical assistance for Pampanga families.
