The Sandiganbayan has ordered a 90-day preventive suspension of Candaba Mayor Rene Maglanque amid graft and malversation charges linked to the alleged misuse of Malampaya funds.

The anti-graft court, in a resolution dated January 19, 2026, directed Maglanque to step down from his duties for three months while the case is pending.

The suspension is connected to allegations involving a P900-million Malampaya fund scam, one of several high-profile cases involving government funds intended for energy projects and community programs.

Malampaya funds have long been under scrutiny, with multiple officials previously indicted or convicted for irregularities over the years.
