Globe is reinforcing its network resiliency in the typhoon-prone regions of South Luzon and Bicol through the rollout of sustainable Battery Charging Hubs, aimed at maintaining mobile and internet services during prolonged power outages caused by severe weather.

These areas often experience disruptions in connectivity after typhoons due to extended commercial power interruptions. With the new battery charging facilities, Globe can keep the backup batteries that power its cell sites in optimal condition through faster testing, recharging, and replacement, significantly reducing downtime during emergencies.

The initiative is particularly critical for communities in South Luzon and Bicol that are frequently affected by strong storms. By keeping essential communication infrastructure operational, the Battery Charging Hubs help ensure that residents can continue working, studying, and staying connected with family and loved ones even during disasters.

“Connectivity is a vital part of people’s everyday lives. That is why we strive to keep our cell sites operational, especially when disasters strike. We’re making sure that communities can count on Globe to stay connected no matter the situation,” said Joel Agustin, Globe Senior Vice President for Network Planning and Engineering.

Battery Charging Hubs are now operational in San Pablo, Laguna, and Batangas, with deployment ongoing in Pili, Camarines Sur. Globe is also preparing additional facilities in Mindoro, Palawan, Marinduque, and Romblon.

Each hub is capable of refreshing multiple batteries every week, ensuring a ready supply of fully charged units for immediate deployment. Globe personnel across all locations have been trained to handle battery recovery and maintenance, detect potential issues early, and help prevent service interruptions.

Beyond improving network reliability, the initiative supports Globe’s broader sustainability goals, complementing the company’s increasing use of renewable energy and its efforts to build a more energy-efficient and environmentally responsible telecommunications network.
