At the heart of Bataan’s achievements is its dedication to ethical and transparent governance. This was exemplified by the province’s receipt of its 7th Seal of Good Local Governance from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), acknowledging its excellence in disaster preparedness, financial transparency, and environmental protection.

Governor Jose Enrique Garcia III, in his State of the Province Address, highlighted these successes as a reflection of Bataan’s ability to serve its people with integrity and effectiveness. He shared, “Ang mga piling programang nakatanggap ng parangal nitong 2024 ay naging dahilan upang kilalanin tayo bilang modelo ng kaunlaran ng iba’t ibang probinsya sa buong bansa” (The programs that received recognition in 2024 have made us a model of development for various provinces across the country).

Financial management was another key area where Bataan excelled, receiving recognition from the Bureau of Local Government Finance for achieving the highest ratio of locally sourced revenues to operating income. The province also ranked fourth in nominal revenue terms in 2024, showing the sustainability of its financial practices—an important contribution to the national economic agenda.

Bataan has made significant strides in economic growth, serving as a model of success for other provinces. In 2022, it ranked 5th nationwide in per capita Gross Domestic Product (GDP), reflecting its robust economy.

The province’s business environment was further affirmed by its 10th-place ranking in the Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index, underscoring Bataan’s role as a thriving hub for business and job creation. Bataan’s Public Employment Service Office (PESO) was named the National Best PESO, recognizing its vital role in job creation and livelihood programs.

Bataan also effectively combines economic growth with cultural preservation. Its Bahay Wika Program, dedicated to preserving the language of the Ayta Magbukon indigenous group, earned recognition as one of the 10 Outstanding Local Governance Programs by the Galing Pook Foundation. It also won Best Institutionalized Culture and Arts Program at the Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines-Department of Tourism Pearl Awards. Additionally, the “Remember Bataan” collection, which won Best Tourism Souvenirs at the same event, highlights the province’s commitment to celebrating its heritage while supporting local artisans.

Furthering its community engagement, the province partnered with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas for the Paleng-QR PH Plus Program, which earned it the Most Outstanding Stakeholder award, promoting financial literacy and digital payments in local communities.

Governor Garcia emphasized that the true strength of Bataan lies in its people.

As Bataan continues to align its initiatives with national goals, its 268th anniversary not only celebrated its rich history but also demonstrated its unwavering commitment to progress and inclusivity. Through visionary leadership and strong governance, Bataan stands as a beacon of progress for the entire nation.

With these strides, the province sets an example of how local governments can drive sustainable development and create a more prosperous future for all. (PIA Region 3-Bataan)
