Converge ICT Solutions Inc., a leading Philippine fiber broadband and technology provider, has upgraded Davao International Airport with a 1-gigabyte capacity fiber connection, enhancing connectivity for nearly 3.9 million passengers who pass through the gateway annually.
Converge CEO and Co-Founder Dennis Anthony Uy described the initiative as part of the company’s commitment to modernizing the country’s airports. “As we approach the last quarter of the year, we’re pushing forward with our project to fiberize local and international gateways. Davao International Airport is now fiber-powered by Converge—a timely gift as we anticipate an influx of travelers during the holiday season,” Uy said.
The collaboration was formalized on November 13, 2024, through a Memorandum of Agreement signed by Converge Government Affairs Head Angelico “Chito” Salud and Davao International Airport General Manager Engr. Rex A. Obcena. The upgraded connection is accessible through 49 strategically placed access points within the airport’s 65,000-square-meter terminal building, serving check-in counters, commercial areas, and other passenger zones. This setup is expected to accommodate approximately 12,500 users daily.
Uy emphasized the robustness of the facility, stating, “The 1 Gbps bandwidth is designed to meet the demands of airport management, personnel, and passengers. We’ve also built in extra capacity to anticipate future needs.” Travelers can enjoy fiber-fast internet for two hours via the Converge network, with Converge GoFiber subscribers receiving an additional six hours of free access for up to five devices by entering their account number on the login page.
Davao International Airport, the main gateway to Mindanao, is the busiest airport on the island and ranked as the third busiest in the Philippines in 2022. As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility program, Converge aims to equip the country’s airports with high-speed broadband. Following its successful fiberization of NAIA earlier this year, the company is now focusing on regional airports to further improve the travel experience across the Philippines.
