CHRISTIAN Tell Yap is the fourth Yap to win a gubernatorial seatโฆ he succeeded his grandfather Jose โApingโ Yap, his uncle Victor and his mother Susan who all reigned for three consecutive terms.
Tang Aping won in 1998 versus then incumbent Margarita โTingTingโ Cojuangco and he was reelected twice by defeating then Tarlac City Mayor Gelacio โAceโ Manalang in 2001 and then ex-officio Board Member Dr. Isaias โChadโ Apostol in 2004.
Then came Victor or VY who was elected in 2007 by soundly defeating former first district Congressman Jose โPepingโ Cojuangco Jr. In 2010 and in 2013, he cruised to an easy victory by winning against then Vice Governor Marcelino โBogsโ Aganon Jr. and Dr. Isa Cojuangco-Suntay, respectively.
In 2016, it was his motherโs turn to handle the topmost provincial post. First, Susan won against then City Mayor Manalang via a landslide, followed by two consecutive unopposed elections.
This year, Christian defeated Paniqui Mayor Leonardo โMaxโ Roxas also by a landslideโฆ what separates Christian from his grandfather, uncle and mother is very glaring and only a few talk about it, or made a big fuzz about it.
The third generation of Yap to become governor, Christian made history by winning in all municipalities and lone city in the province.
Yes, one can argue that SY won also in all the 17 municipalities and lone city in 2019 and 2022 but remember, she was unopposed.
Christian garnered a total of 481,968 votes as against Roxasโ 256,496. His total represents a percentage of 63.72% while Roxasโ total represents 33.92%. He won by a margin of 225,200. The other candidates Kathryn Ann Basco, Kap Garcia and Fredo Bie accumulated a total of 17,837 or 2.36%.
He defeated Roxas in Anao by 1,077 (3,928 to 2,851), in Bamban by 12,702 (22,640 to 9,938), in Camiling by 2,802 (22,503 to 19,071), in Capas by 27,524 (46,717 to 19,193), in Tarlac City by 63,541 (125,699 to 62,158), Concepcion by 10,004 (49,504 to 39,500), in Gerona by 20,136 (34,983 to 14,847), in La Paz by 12,585 (24,166 to 11,581), in Mayantoc by 4,515 (10,530 to 6,015).
In Moncada by 6,166 (19,057 to 12,891), in Pura by 5,681 (10,010 to 4,329), in Ramos by 586 (6,653 to 6,067), in San Clemente by 2,772 (5,143 to 2,371), in San Jose by 8,327 (13,628 to 5,301), in San Manuel by 3,655 (8,444 to 4,789), in Sta. Ignacia by 14,466 (20,212 to 5,746), in Victoria by 17,000 (25,870 to 8,870) and most especially, in Paniqui, the hometown of his closest opponent by 11,031 votes (32,009 to 20,978).
Tang Aping, VY and Susan were not able to accomplish what he was able to achieve. To win in all municipalities, to win in the very municipality of his opponent where he is the incumbent mayor and to win it all despite a famous national figure campaigning hard for his opponent is a feat that will be hard to surpass or even equal.
Serve our fellow Tarlaqueรฑos well for the next nine years Governor Christianโฆ I only wish you all the best.
