Pampanga First District Representative Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. has filed a resolution congratulating 14-year-old Liam Casey Opulento for winning a silver medal at the 6th Copernicus Olympiad held from July 26 to 31, 2025, in New York City, USA.
“Opulento’s success is a testament to the skill and intelligence of Kapampangan youth, and will serve as an inspiration for his peers,” Lazatin said.

Opulento, a Grade 9 student at the Philippine Science High School – Central Luzon Campus in Clark, ranked first among Philippine participants and seventh overall internationally during the online preliminaries. He has also won multiple medals in international Olympiads in Hong Kong, Macau, and Thailand.
The Copernicus Olympiad, named after Polish scientist Nicolaus Copernicus, gathers students from Grades 3 to 12 worldwide to compete in Mathematics, Physics, Astronomy, and Natural Science.
Lazatin, a consistent supporter of young Kapampangan “MATHletes,” recently extended financial aid to three students from OB Montessori Center—Achillas Maximus Cristobal, Sean Derrick Yeung, and Beatrice Margaux Galang—who will represent the Philippines in the Hong Kong International Mathematical Olympiad later this month.
