DOST-SEI extends deadline for undergrad scholarship applications

Department of Science and Technology Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) has extended the cut-off period for applications to the 2022 Undergraduate Scholarship Program.

DOST Region 3 Science Research Specialist Marites Batac shared that the DOST-SEI Undergraduate Scholarships seek to entice talented Filipino youths to pursue careers in Science and Technology (S&T) and ensure an adequate supply of human resources to steer the country towards national progress.

“This aims to give opportunity to the students who are fond of Science and Technology to be able to study in college through giving of financial aids,” she explained.

The application for the scholarships primarily ended on December 31, 2021, but the agency decided to reschedule it until January 31, 2022 as the last day of uploading and submission of requirements.

With this, Batac encouraged those who have successfully registered on or before December 31 to upload their requirements in the system at the SEI’s website at www.sei.dost.gov.ph.

“If you won’t be able to upload the requirements in the online application system, even though you have registered, your form will not be accepted. It is important to complete all of the requirements and upload them before the given deadline,” she reiterated.

This is also to give chance to about 2,000 Central Luzon student-applicants who registered, but are unable to complete their application process and requirements due to the limitations brought about by the pandemic.

Also, amid the escalating cases of COVID-19 in the region, DOST SEI has shifted all processes online to avoid in-person interactions.

“The students just have to click the link for their application form. All forms that they must submit are all downloadable in the system. All they have to do is print those forms, have these signed, and upload again in the system to complete their application,” Batac detailed.

The agency also developed a system to choose those who are qualified as scholars based on the applicants’ academic standing when they are in Grades 9-11, and other proxy indicators to determine their eligibility.

Meanwhile, those who are qualified to apply to the DOST-SEI S&T grant are graduating Grade 12 students for the academic year 2021-2022 belonging to the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) strand; or those who are in the top 5 percent of the graduating class for the non-STEM strands.

Privileges to be granted to the scholars include P40,000 for tuition and other school fees; P10,000 for book allowance; P10,000 for thesis allowance; P7,000 for monthly living allowance, and others. (MJSC/JLDC-PIA 3)
