Globe rolls out SMS Scam Shield to protect customers from text scams

Globe has introduced SMS Scam Shield, a new security feature on the GlobeOne app designed to protect customers from the surge of text-based phishing scams, particularly those using spoofed Globe or GCash sender IDs.

Currently available to Android users, the tool detects and flags suspicious messages that may contain malicious links or impersonate trusted brands like Globe, GCash, or banks. It also identifies fake sender names such as “GLOBE,” “GLOBEREWARD,” and “GCASH.”

“SMS Scam Shield is our way of giving customers more control and peace of mind. With this built-in protection, users are alerted when they receive suspicious messages that could pose a risk,” said Coco Domingo, Globe Product Experience Vice President.

Once activated on the GlobeOne app, the feature works locally on the user’s device and ensures privacy by not storing or reading SMS content. It only collects harmful links to strengthen system defenses. Users are notified through push alerts whenever a message is flagged as a potential scam.

Since its launch, more than 34,000 users have already enabled SMS Scam Shield, with the system detecting over 13,000 phishing messages in just a few weeks.

Globe subscribers can activate the feature for free under Profile > Security Settings on the GlobeOne app. The company also encourages community reporting of suspicious links via globe.com.ph/stop-spam to help expand its scam protection network.

Domingo emphasized that the new tool is part of Globe’s broader mission to deliver safer digital experiences for Filipinos.

“Security shouldn’t be an afterthought—it should be seamless. This is just the beginning of more proactive tools we’re building into our digital services,” he said.
