The Philippine motorcycle industry continues its upward momentum in 2025, with sales surging by double digits in the first eight months of the year, according to the Motorcycle Development Program Participants Association, Inc. (MDPPA).
Industry data showed that 158,228 units were sold in August alone, an 18.4 percent increase from 133,689 units in the same month of 2024. From January to August 2025, sales reached 1,227,160 units, up 11.8 percent compared to 1,098,056 units sold during the same period last year.
MDPPA said the sustained growth is driven by strong consumer demand, the expansion of delivery and mobility services, and the practicality of motorcycles in addressing urban congestion. The group earlier projected a five percent growth for the year, a target that industry trends suggest could be surpassed.
Automatic motorcycles remained the most popular choice among Filipinos, with 106,382 units sold in August 2025 — a 24.8 percent jump from 85,212 units last year. Mopeds followed with 21,805 units sold, up 3 percent, while business motorcycles grew 14.4 percent with 26,399 units sold. Other categories, including big bikes, street models, off-road, three-wheelers, and electric motorcycles, posted a decline of 13.7 percent with 3,642 units sold versus 4,220 in August 2024.
“Despite declines in some segments, the industry as a whole remains in a healthy position,” said Engr. Alexander A. Cumpas, MDPPA President. “This positive growth trajectory is a testament to the enduring relevance of motorcycles in the daily lives of Filipinos and highlights a resilient, evolving industry.”
The MDPPA, composed of leading manufacturers Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Yamaha, and TVS, continues to champion road safety, environmental responsibility, and innovation. Among its recent initiatives is the Tropang MAALAM campaign, which promotes rider safety through education, awareness, and training.
