Sixty years ago, a Philippine Airlines DC-8 named Mabuhay landed in Sydney with 86 passengers on board—marking the first-ever direct flight between Manila and Sydney** and the start of a lasting connection between two nations.
From just two flights a week in 1965, the route has grown into a daily link served by multiple airlines, strengthening ties between two dynamic Asia-Pacific cities and the people who call them home.
Today, the Manila–Sydney connection is more than a flight path—it’s a living bridge of family, business, culture, and friendship**, showcasing the Heart of the Filipino across generations.
To celebrate the milestone, Philippine Airlines launched a weeklong anniversary sale from October 13–19, 2025, offering Sydney–Manila return fares from AUD 929 for travel beginning February 2026.
“This anniversary is a proud moment for Philippine Airlines,” said PAL President Richard Nuttall. “For six decades, we’ve carried millions of Filipinos and Australians, connecting families and businesses while sharing countless Mabuhay Moments. As we look ahead, PAL remains committed to delivering world-class service with care that comes from the heart.”
The Philippines continues to be one of the region’s most vibrant destinations —a nation of more than 7,000 islands where natural beauty, innovation, and warm hospitality define the journey.
