Alex Eala delivered a historic victory for Philippine tennis after clinching the gold medal in the women’s singles event at the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Thailand on Thursday.
Eala dominated Thailand’s Mananchaya Sawangkaew in the final held in Bangkok, securing a convincing 6–1, 6–2 win to give the Philippines its first women’s singles tennis gold medal since 1999.
The milestone victory marks a major achievement for Philippine tennis and adds to the country’s medal haul in the ongoing SEA Games.
