Aboitiz Foundation, Aboitiz Renewables expand Digital Learning Access in Benguet through AuroraPH

Six previously unenergized schools in Benguet now have access to electricity, internet connectivity, and digital learning tools through AuroraPH, a flagship program of Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (AFI) in partnership with Aboitiz Renewables, Inc.

Among the beneficiaries is Bashoy Elementary School in Barangay Bashoy, Kabayan, which now enjoys safer and more productive classrooms with access to power and digital resources—significantly improving learning conditions in its mountainous location.

AuroraPH aims to bridge energy gaps in last-mile schools by installing solar power systems, enabling meaningful digital learning while replacing kerosene lamps previously used for lighting. With reliable electricity, teachers and learners can now access the internet and multimedia tools, strengthening schools’ Information and Communications Technology (ICT) capacity.

The six schools prioritized under the program are Ampucao Elementary School in Ampucao, Itogon; Bakian Guinawan Elementary School in Sitio Bakian Guinawan, Ekip, Bokod; Awing Elementary School in Sitio Awing, Lusod, Kabayan; Labney Primary School in Sitio Labney, Ansagan, Tuba; Piminggan Elementary School in Ansagan, Tuba; and Marcelo Marquez National High School, also in Ansagan, Tuba.

Teachers and students can now conduct research more easily and integrate ICT tools into daily lessons. Increased learner engagement has also been observed following the project’s implementation.

“We recognize the challenges communities face in education, and we are dedicated to ensuring every learner has the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed,” said Jowell Ann Cruz, AFI Impact Lead for Education. “With reliable power and internet connectivity, classrooms become spaces of endless possibilities—where students can explore, connect, and dream without limits.”

Noreen Vicencio, First Vice President and General Manager for Hydro Operations at Aboitiz Renewables, said AuroraPH improves learning conditions in far-flung areas one school at a time. “Behind every connection, a student learns, a teacher innovates, and a community grows,” she said, noting the positive impact of connectivity and collaboration.

Aboitiz Renewables operates nine run-of-river hydropower plants in Benguet through its hydropower arm, Hedcor.

With six schools now energized, AuroraPH is laying the groundwork for expanding sustainable power, connectivity, and digital learning opportunities to more last-mile schools nationwide—empowering students and teachers to thrive in a more connected world.
