The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has denounced a circulating graphic on social media as fake and misleading, clarifying that Secretary Juanito Victor ‘Jonvic’ Remulla never made the statement attributed to him.
In a message released on February 22, 2026, the DILG expressed disappointment over the fabrication, emphasizing that the country is facing pressing challenges that require focus, unity, and responsible public discourse.
The department warned that disinformation undermines public trust, distracts from urgent governance efforts, and creates confusion at a time when Filipinos need accurate and verified information.
The DILG also reminded the public that the deliberate creation and continued spread of false information may result in criminal liability and appropriate legal action under existing laws. Individuals or groups found responsible for producing and disseminating fabricated content may be held accountable, the statement said.
The department urged citizens to rely solely on official DILG channels and verified statements for accurate information, stressing the importance of responsibility and integrity in public communication.
