The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has reminded consumers to purchase Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) only from legitimate and accredited dealers to ensure safety and product quality.
Amid rising fuel costs, the agency called on the public to be more vigilant and discerning when buying LPG. It stressed that sourcing from authorized distributors guarantees correct weight and pricing, while ensuring that products have passed proper safety inspections and comply with national standards.

The DTI said consumers should check for key indicators of safe and quality LPG. Cylinders must be properly sealed and free from defects such as rust or leaks. Required markings should also be visible, including the Philippine Standard (PS) mark, brand name, date of manufacture and testing, capacity and tare weight, serial or code number, and country of origin. These details confirm compliance with safety and quality regulations.
Consumers may also verify legitimate suppliers through the official list of accredited LPG manufacturers and dealers available on the website of the Department of Energy (DOE).
The agency warned that the risk of LPG-related incidents may increase during the summer months due to higher temperatures and improper handling. It advised households and establishments to store LPG tanks away from direct sunlight and heat sources, and to regularly check for possible leaks.
DTI Region 3 Director Edna Dizon underscored the importance of consumer vigilance.
“We urge the public to always prioritize safety by purchasing LPG only from accredited dealers. Ensuring that cylinders meet the required standards not only protects households but also prevents potential hazards, especially during the summer season,” Dizon said.
The DTI reiterated its commitment to consumer protection and encouraged the public to report any suspicious or illegal LPG trading activities to the nearest DTI office.
