PAGASA declares onset of rainy season

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has officially declared the onset of the rainy season in the country, particularly across the western sections of Luzon and the Visayas.

According to PAGASA, the declaration was based on weather observations and analyses showing occasional to frequent rains associated with the southwest monsoon or Habagat over the past five days.

The weather bureau noted, however, that periods of reduced rainfall, known as monsoon breaks, may still occur and could last for several days or even weeks.

PAGASA also warned that enhanced southwest monsoon rains are highly likely during the season due to the looming El Niño phenomenon, particularly over the western sections of Luzon and the Visayas.

The agency said it will continue to closely monitor weather and climate conditions across the country and urged the public and concerned government agencies to take precautionary measures against the possible impacts of the rainy season, Habagat, and other weather-related events.

PAGASA advised communities to stay updated through official weather bulletins and forecasts as the rainy season progresses.
