CALAX extension seen to boost investments, economic growth in Cavite

Local government officials and business leaders expressed optimism over the opening of Subsection 3 of the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX), saying the new segment will strengthen connectivity, attract investments, and create more economic opportunities across Cavite.

The newly opened section extends CALAX to the Governor’s Drive Interchange in General Trias City, bringing the expressway’s operational length to 26 kilometers from Mamplasan in Biñan, Laguna to General Trias, Cavite.

According to Florencio Ayos, president of the GenTri Business Club, the project significantly improves access between Laguna and Cavite’s industrial centers by reducing travel time to approximately 26 minutes.

“With improved accessibility, General Trias is now better positioned to attract investments, generate jobs, and strengthen its local economy,” Ayos said.

General Trias City Mayor Luis “Jon Jon” Ferrer IV described the interchange as a gateway to greater opportunities, noting that infrastructure projects play a vital role in bringing economic prospects closer to residents as the city continues to grow as an industrial hub.

Dasmariñas City Mayor Jennifer Barzaga likewise emphasized that the expressway enhances access to commerce, education, and tourism while contributing to a better quality of life for communities.

At the barangay level, officials cited the project’s positive impact on local development. Barangay Adlas Captain Joelito Generoso of Silang said the CALAX extension has opened new business opportunities, created jobs, increased land values, and improved tourism and goods transport.

Meanwhile, Barangay San Francisco Captain Ryan Santor of General Trias said the improved connectivity is expected to encourage more investments and facilitate the movement of goods and services in nearby communities.

Beyond reducing travel time, CALAX Subsection 3 is expected to support business expansion, strengthen trade, and enhance Cavite’s competitiveness as an investment destination.

CALAX is a project of MPCALA Holdings Inc. under the supervision of the Department of Public Works and Highways. MPCALA Holdings is a subsidiary of Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation, the toll road arm of Metro Pacific Investments Corporation.
