BOC intercepts ₱27.54M shabu hidden in salon product shipment

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) – Port of Clark, in coordination with the Clark Inter-Agency Task Force Against Illegal Drugs (CRK-IATFAID), intercepted a shipment containing 4,050 grams of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride, or “shabu,” with an estimated value of ₱27.54 million.

The shipment, which originated from the United States and was bound for Mandaluyong City, arrived on June 9 and was subjected to physical examination on June 11 after initial X-ray scanning and profiling raised suspicion.

Declared as nail powder and other salon products, the parcel was found to contain a nail care set and two white plastic containers labeled as nail powder. Upon inspection, authorities discovered a white crystalline substance suspected to be shabu.

Initial field testing using a Rigaku spectrometer confirmed the substance as methamphetamine hydrochloride, a dangerous drug under Republic Act 9165. Samples were turned over to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) for confirmatory laboratory analysis.

The shipment was placed under a Warrant of Seizure and Detention for violations of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act in relation to the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.

BOC officials credited the interception to coordinated efforts among enforcement agencies, reiterating their commitment to strengthening border security and preventing the entry of illegal drugs into the country.
