A total of 38,717 kilos of plastic has been collected from the 23 barangays here thru the Walang Plastikan — Plastik Palit Bigas project of the Angeles City government launched by Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr. in January 2022.
Mayor Lazatin said that these 38,717 kilos of plastic were exchanged into 38,717 kilos of rice by all the residents of the 23 barangays who participated in the project.
“Maraming salamat po sa ating mga kababayan sa efforts na makilahok po sa proyekto nating ito,” Lazatin shared.
“While we aim to reinforce waste segregation and reduce the use of plastic, we are also offering a little reward for their effort — rice. Helping our kababayans to put food on the table,” Lazatin furthered.
Two trucks are being deployed in the barangays via schedule with the supervision of Chief Adviser IC Calaguas and Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel, Angeles City Economic Development and Investment Promotions Office Head Irish Bonus-Llego said.
City Engineer Donato Dizon, meanwhile explained that the collected plastics will be sold to cement companies. The earnings will then be turned over to the City Treasurer’s Office for collection.
Of the 23 barangays visited for the project, Barangay Anunas has the highest number of plastic-to-rice exchange — 6,991 kilos; second is Malabanias with 4,404; Pampang (3,701); Sta. Teresita (3,401); and Cuayan (2,400).
The sixth to the highest is Amsic (2,219); seventh is Capaya (1,721); eighth is Pulungbulu (1,576); ninth is Ninoy Aquino (1,474); and tenth is Sto. Rosario (1,372).
The other barangays are Sta. Trinidad (1,317); Lourdes North West (1,190); Tabun (1,047); Lourdes Sur (995); and Lourdes Sur East (950).
The Plastik Palit Bigas project already went to San Jose with 911 kilos of plastic exchanged to rice; San Nicolas (724); Agapito Del Rosario (632); Claro M. Recto (605); Virgen Delos Remedios (332); Sto. Cristo (282); Salapungan (275); and Mining (198).
The redemption trucks are deployed at Sapangbato from March 9 to 10, 2022.
