Cong Pogi seeks tougher gun ownership guidelines

First District of Pampanga Rep. Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. has filed House Resolution No. 1159 urging the House Committee on Public Order and Safety to review the country’s guidelines on responsible gun ownership, firearms control, and accountability following the recent school shooting in Tacloban City.

Lazatin said the incident highlights the need to determine how minors gain access to firearms and whether existing safeguards are sufficient. He stressed that adult gun owners must be held accountable if children are able to access their firearms.

The lawmaker also called for the assessment of possible legislative measures, including stricter safeguards and stronger oversight mechanisms.

Earlier, Lazatin filed House Resolution No. 1150, urging concerned agencies to conduct regular active shooter and hostage-taking simulation drills in public and private schools, colleges, and universities to strengthen campus safety and emergency preparedness.
