The National Academy of Sports (NAS) in New Clark City is set to provide Filipino student-athletes with a more complete environment for training, studying and recovery as the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) advances the academy’s campus expansion.
BCDA formally turned over the newly completed Sports Performance Building, Gymnastics Hall and Staff Residences to NAS and joined the groundbreaking ceremony for the academy’s Student-Athletes’ Dormitory.
The new facilities will strengthen NAS’ capacity to provide specialized training, sports science, conditioning and athlete support alongside academic education.
The 12,490-square-meter dormitory will feature 100 units accommodating up to 400 students, along with a dining hall and kitchen, laundry and utility areas, recreational spaces, pocket gyms, a roof deck, garden strips, prayer room, multi-purpose halls and consultation rooms.
Targeted to become operational by 2027, the dormitory will allow students to live within the same campus as their classrooms and training facilities.
“With the turnover of the completed facilities and the groundbreaking of the Student-Athletes’ Dormitory, we are building a more complete environment for our young athletes, where they can train, study, recover, and live with greater convenience and focus,” BCDA President and CEO Joshua M. Bingcang said.
NAS Executive Director Assoc. Prof. Francis Carlos Diaz said the dormitory will make daily life easier for student-athletes by allowing them to walk from their living quarters to their classrooms and training areas.
The continuing development of NAS is part of BCDA’s broader effort to position New Clark City as a premier hub for sports and athlete development, complementing its existing sports infrastructure and strengthening the city’s role as a venue for national and international sporting activities.
Since welcoming its first batch of student-athletes in 2021, NAS has sought to develop young athletes through the integration of elite sports training and academic education. The expanded campus is expected to further support students throughout training, competition, recovery and school life.
The turnover and groundbreaking were attended by NAS Board members, including CHED Commissioner Desiderio R. Apag III, DepEd Undersecretary for Operations Malcolm S. Garma and Philippine Sports Commission Chairperson Patrick “Pato” Gregorio.
