The Angeles City Government has warned the public and members of the media to remain vigilant against individuals falsely claiming to be victims or survivors of the collapsed structure incident in Barangay Balibago.

According to the Angeles City Police Office (ACPO), authorities recently took into custody a male individual who made viral claims on social media alleging that he survived the tragedy.
The individual allegedly fabricated a story claiming he was buying beer near the area when the structure suddenly collapsed.
Initial investigation revealed that the man was even able to receive financial assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) last Wednesday, May 27. Authorities became suspicious after he reportedly attempted to seek additional assistance, prompting verification of his identity and background.
Further investigation by ACPO confirmed that the individual was neither a survivor nor connected to any of the victims involved in the incident. Police also discovered that he is not a resident of Angeles City.
Authorities said the man later admitted to fabricating the story.
The individual is currently under police custody while appropriate charges are being prepared against him.
Angeles City Mayor Carmelo “Jon” Lazatin II condemned individuals allegedly taking advantage of the tragedy for personal gain.
“This is a very painful incident that has deeply affected many families. A lot of people have suffered and continue to suffer because of this tragedy. What we need right now is empathy, honesty, and understanding — not exploitation,” Lazatin said.
The Angeles City Government also urged the public to verify information responsibly and avoid spreading unconfirmed claims on social media.
