The Department of Agriculture has turned over the country’s first solar and wind-powered modular cold storage facility to the municipal government of Dinalupihan, aimed at improving postharvest systems for farmers.
Funded under the agency’s Cold Storage Expansion Program, the P14.6-million facility was completed in April after construction began in November 2025.

The containerized unit can store up to 9 to 10 metric tons of produce and is equipped with a hybrid renewable energy system combining solar and wind power to ensure continuous refrigeration.
Designed for multi-commodity use, the facility provides temperature-controlled storage for vegetables, fruits, and other high-value crops—helping preserve quality, extend shelf life, and reduce postharvest losses.
The Department of Agriculture said the project will enable farmers to better manage their harvests, avoid distress selling, and access more favorable market prices, ultimately improving income and strengthening their role in the agricultural value chain.
The initiative forms part of the government’s broader push to modernize agricultural logistics while promoting sustainable and climate-resilient technologies in farming communities.
