Globe: Private sector key to maximizing PH opportunities under Pax Silica

Globe Telecom President and CEO Carl Cruz said the Philippine private sector has an important role to play as the country explores opportunities emerging from Pax Silica and seeks to strengthen its position in the global technology economy.

Cruz emphasized the value of closer government-business collaboration, noting that Philippine companies can contribute their existing capabilities as plans for the initiative take shape.

His position echoes Ayala Corporation Chairman Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala’s call for businesses to identify where their strengths and expertise could contribute to opportunities linked to Pax Silica.

The government has outlined a proposed Philippine Technology Corridor, with potential hubs for advanced manufacturing in New Clark City, integrated circuit design in Metro Manila, AI compute and cloud infrastructure in Batangas, connectivity in Aurora, critical minerals in Mindanao, and semiconductor fabrication in Bulacan.

For Globe, fiberization, connectivity and data centers are key areas where it can support the emerging technology ecosystem. Cruz noted that reliable digital infrastructure will be essential to industries such as AI, cloud computing and advanced manufacturing.

Globe has welcomed the opportunities associated with Pax Silica while recognizing the need to consider environmental, resource, geopolitical and other national concerns.

Cruz said sustained dialogue among government, business, academe and other stakeholders will be important in identifying where Philippine capabilities can contribute as the country’s technology plans continue to develop.
