The national government has announced that medalists of the Palarong Pambansa and Para Games will now receive incentives for the first time, recognizing the hard work, dedication, and sacrifices of young Filipino athletes.
During the opening of the 2026 Palarong Pambansa in Agusan del Sur, Special Assistant to the President Antonio Ernesto F. Lagdameo Jr., representing President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., highlighted the important role of sports in shaping discipline, teamwork, respect, and resilience among Filipino youth.
Anchored on the theme “Unlocking the Future Through Sports,” the government reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening grassroots sports development through school sports clubs, distribution of sports equipment, enhanced training support for young athletes, and programs that provide recognition and incentives for their achievements.
Officials said the initiative aims to inspire more young Filipinos to pursue excellence in sports and help them reach their full potential.
More than 10,000 student-athletes from various regions nationwide, including participants from the National Academy of Sports and Philippine schools overseas, are competing in this year’s Palarong Pambansa to showcase their talent, determination, and sportsmanship.
