IRONMAN SUBIC BAY DRAWS ELITE TRIATHLETES FOR JUNE 15 RACE

Top local and international triathletes are set to converge in Olongapo City on June 15 for the Century Tuna IRONMAN 70.3 Subic Bay, Philippines—the second leg of this year’s five-race series.

Among the frontrunners is Irienold Reig Jr., leading the charge in the men’s 18–24 category for the grueling 1.9 km swim, 90 km bike, and 21 km run. Reig will be joined by fellow local contenders Gerard Mendoza, Julio Padilla, John Paul Osio, Carl Aguilar, Benedicto Mapanao Jr., and Jan Javier.

Reig is also preparing to defend his title in the Olympic-distance 5150 Bohol event in July, which features a 1.5 km swim, 40 km bike, and 10 km run.

In the women’s 30–34 category, the competition includes Faith Garcia, Regina Rosquites, Gabrielle Silvestre-Tengco, Clarisa Agapito, Hazel Sicat, Nicole Andaya, Claudine Mendiola, and Bianca Bondoc.

This Subic Bay leg follows the successful opening race in Puerto Princesa, Palawan, held last March. A total of 45 qualifying slots for the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in Marbella, Spain this November will be up for grabs.

Also featured during the event weekend is the Sunrise Sprint, a short-distance triathlon comprising a 750-meter swim, 20-kilometer bike, and 5-kilometer run.

Meanwhile, from June 12 to 15, the Subic Bay Exhibition and Convention Center will host the much-anticipated IRONMAN Warehouse Wipeout Sale, offering big discounts on race gear, apparel, and merchandise.
