The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is working with private and foreign partners to fast-track the implementation of nature-based solutions, including bamboo cribbing and earth dikes, to help mitigate recurring flooding in the provinces of Pampanga and Bulacan.

Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon said President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has directed the DPWH to collaborate with the private sector, foreign consultants, and experts in strengthening short-, medium-, and long-term solutions to address flooding.

The initiative was discussed during Dizon’s meeting with representatives of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Asian Development Bank (ADB), Haskoning Philippines Inc., and local government units from Pampanga and Bulacan.

Among the areas being prioritized are Hagonoy, Paombong, Masantol, Obando, and Macabebe, which are part of the Northern Manila Bay area and among communities frequently affected by flooding.

The proposed measures aim to accelerate the implementation of flood-mitigation projects while developing longer-term solutions to protect communities and strengthen flood resilience in the affected areas.
