The Pampanga provincial government urged residents in flood-prone areas to remain alert and prepared following the release of water from Cong. Dadong Dam in Arayat amid heavy rains brought by the enhanced southwest monsoon.

The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) reported that the dam’s water level reached 9.7 meters, above its reported 6.5-meter capacity, prompting the controlled release of water.

Gov. Lilia Pineda warned that the additional downstream flow could temporarily affect flood-prone areas, particularly Macabebe, Masantol, San Luis, San Simon and Apalit, which are already experiencing elevated water levels.

“Nananawagan kami sa inyo na kailangan mag-prepare kayo,” Pineda said, citing the combined effects of existing floodwaters, high tide and additional water from upstream.

Pineda said the release was necessary to manage the dam’s rising water level and that downstream water levels are expected to normalize once the excess water has passed.

The provincial government continues 24/7 monitoring and coordination with NIA, DPWH and concerned local governments. Residents needing assistance are advised to coordinate with their barangay officials, mayors or local disaster risk reduction offices and to follow official advisories.
