PBBM welcomes new Lufthansa Technik facility in Clark

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. welcomed Lufthansa Technik Philippines’ multi-million-dollar investment in Clark International Airport, a project expected to generate around 1,200 high-skill jobs and strengthen the country’s position as a leading aviation maintenance hub in the Asia-Pacific region.

The announcement was made during the state visit of German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier on June 16, 2026, at Malacañang Palace, where both leaders cited the project as a milestone in German-Philippine economic cooperation.

Lufthansa Technik Philippines, a joint venture between Lufthansa Technik AG and MacroAsia Corporation, will establish a new maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility covering approximately 157,000 square meters within Clark International Airport. The facility will accommodate up to nine widebody aircraft and is expected to begin operations in 2028.

President Marcos said the project highlights the strong partnership between the Philippines and Germany, noting that such collaborations contribute significantly to national development.

Department of Finance Secretary Frederick D. Go described the investment as a testament to the Philippines’ growing appeal for high-value industries, citing its potential to create quality jobs, promote technology transfer, and strengthen the country’s role in global aviation supply chains.

Lufthansa Technik Philippines Chief Executive Officer Holger Beck said the Clark facility represents a major expansion of the company’s network in the Asia-Pacific region and reinforces its long-term commitment to the Philippines as a strategic aviation hub.

The Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) also welcomed the investment, saying it further strengthens Clark’s emergence as a premier destination for aviation, logistics, and high-value industries.

BCDA President and Chief Executive Officer Joshua M. Bingcang said the project will create opportunities for Filipino engineers, technicians, and aviation professionals while delivering long-term economic benefits across Central Luzon and beyond.

The investment is expected to boost the country’s aviation services sector, attract related industries, and reinforce Clark International Airport’s role as a key aviation and logistics gateway within the Luzon Economic Corridor.
