The Police Regional Office 3 (PRO3) has launched an investigation into a reported stoning incident along the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) that posed a serious threat to motorists.
In an official statement, PRO3 said the incident was reported by a motorist, identified as Z Ace Valenzuela, on April 13, 2026. The vehicle was struck by a foreign object while traveling southbound near the San Simon exit.
Initial findings indicate that the object, described as a welded steel bar, may have been thrown or fallen from an overpass. Authorities said the case is being treated with urgency due to its potential risk to public safety.
PRO3 has directed concerned territorial units, in coordination with NLEX/SCTEX Traffic Operations, to verify the incident, review available CCTV footage, and identify possible suspects. Investigators are also assessing whether the case is linked to similar reported incidents involving motorists.
The regional police office said coordination has been strengthened with NLEX/SCTEX management and other stakeholders to ensure a swift and unified response.
Police units have also been instructed to intensify visibility and presence along identified overpasses, particularly during peak hours and nighttime. Joint patrols and monitoring with expressway authorities have been enhanced, while local government units and barangay officials are being tapped to help secure overpass areas and support early reporting.
PRO3 emphasized that any act endangering motorists will be dealt with in accordance with the law, adding that parallel investigations are underway to determine accountability and possible connections to related incidents.
Authorities assured the public that measures are being implemented to prevent a recurrence and maintain safety along major road networks. Motorists are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or through official hotlines.
