RLMMC strengthens breastfeeding support for mothers and babies

The Rafael Lazatin Memorial Medical Center (RLMMC), in partnership with the Angeles City Government, led byMayor Carmelo “Jon” Lazatin II, continues to strengthen its breastfeeding programs and services as part of the Mother-Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative (MBFHI).

The initiative aims to improve the health of both mothers and infants by providing proper guidance and continuous support from pregnancy through early childcare.

RLMMC offers free lectures and counseling sessions for pregnant women and new mothers. These are conducted every Monday and Friday at the OB Outpatient Department, daily at the OB Ward, and through dedicated Mother’s Classes.

Topics discussed include proper maternal nutrition, correct infant feeding practices, the importance of breastfeeding, and proper latching and nursing techniques.

During childbirth, the hospital implements the “Unang Yakap” or skin-to-skin contact to help initiate breastfeeding immediately. After delivery, mothers continue to receive breastfeeding counseling, newborn care guidance, and Vitamin A supplementation.

Support extends beyond the hospital, as Barangay Health Centers and midwives provide follow-up assistance to ensure continued care at home.

RLMMC also maintains a Breastfeeding Station for mothers who wish to nurse or express milk.

The local government encourages Angeleño mothers to take advantage of these services to ensure a healthier start for their children.
