Two children were rescued after being swept away by strong currents in the Abacan River, prompting a swift search and rescue operation by city responders.
Mayor Carmelo “Jon” Lazatin II thanked the Angeles City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (ACDRRMO) and Angeles City Traffic Development Office (ACTDO) for their immediate response and successful rescue operation. He also acknowledged the assistance of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and Angeles City Police Office (ACPO).
The two children were brought to the Rafael Lazatin Memorial Medical Center (RLMMC, formerly ONA) for medical assessment and necessary care. The City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) is also on standby to provide additional assistance.
Following the incident, the city government renewed its urgent warning to parents and children: swimming, bathing, fishing and playing in the Abacan River are strictly prohibited.
Authorities warned that the river can become dangerous due to sudden rises and strong currents. The water is also considered unsafe because of contamination.
The city government urged parents and guardians to keep children away from the river and reminded the public that preventing another tragedy requires everyone’s vigilance.
