A joint entrapment operation by the Philippine National Police (PNP) Maritime Group and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)-CENRO Masinloc led to the seizure of four illegally traded exotic cockatiels in Iba, Zambales.

The rescued birds, native to Australia, were placed under DENR custody, where they underwent health assessment before being transferred to an accredited wildlife rescue center for rehabilitation and long-term care.

Authorities are preparing charges against the suspects for alleged violations of the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act of 2001 (Republic Act No. 9147), which prohibits the unauthorized collection, possession, transport, sale, and trade of wildlife.

DENR officials said the successful operation highlights the strong partnership between environmental authorities and law enforcement in combating illegal wildlife trade and protecting the country’s biodiversity. They also urged the public to report suspected wildlife crimes to the nearest DENR office or law enforcement agency.
