Motorists in Metro Manila are set to benefit from expanded expressway access as the NLEX Corporation officially launches the construction of the NLEX-C5 Northlink Section 1A project. The entire NLEX-C5 Northlink stretch will cover 11.3 kilometers, connecting Mindanao Avenue to C5/C.P. Garcia near Katipunan Avenue.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the initial 2-kilometer segment was led by MPTC President and CEO Jose Ma. Lim, NLEX OIC and CFO Maria Theresa Wells, Valenzuela City Mayor Wes Gatchalian, Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte, along with key representatives from partner government agencies, including the DOTr-TRB, DPWH, and DHSUD-NHA.

This section of the NLEX-C5 Northlink will extend the expressway from the Mindanao Toll Plaza to Quirino Highway, featuring an elevated, all-weather expressway accessible to all vehicles 24/7. The project is designed to provide a smooth, uninterrupted route for travelers heading to and from Novaliches in Quezon City.
“We’re excited about this project as it plays a crucial role in easing traffic congestion on local roads in the metro. At MPTC, we believe that improving mobility drives growth in jobs, businesses, and overall economic activity,” said MPTC President and CEO Jose Ma. Lim.
The decision to build an elevated expressway was made to minimize construction disruptions for local communities while ensuring that the project could be completed as efficiently as possible.

Once finished, the NLEX-C5 Northlink will significantly improve access to the expressway from all sides of Metro Manila—west, east, north, and south. The project will reduce travel time and ease congestion on major thoroughfares like EDSA, Commonwealth Avenue, Quirino Highway, and Mindanao Avenue, ultimately leading to more efficient commutes and logistics.
This project is a key component of the broader NLEX expansion, enhancing connectivity between NLEX, Valenzuela City, and Quezon City. It is expected to boost local business growth, create job opportunities, and support the economic development of the surrounding regions.
“We plan to complete this 2-kilometer segment in 12 months. Throughout the construction phase, we will collaborate closely with all stakeholders to minimize disruptions. MPTC and NLEX remain committed to delivering high-quality infrastructure with a focus on safety, efficiency, and sustainability,” said Lim.
As a major public-private partnership, the NLEX-C5 Northlink Section 1A is an essential project under the government’s Build Better More program. It supports national development by fostering economic growth, enhancing regional connectivity, and improving the quality of life for both motorists and local communities.
NLEX Corporation is a subsidiary of Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC), the toll road arm of Metro Pacific Investments Corporation (MPIC).
