One RFID for All: SMC, MPTC complete Luzon Expressway Interoperability

Motorists can now travel seamlessly across all Luzon expressways with just one RFID, as SMC Infrastructure and Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC) officially completed the long-awaited interoperability of their toll systems.

The milestone was launched Tuesday in Calamba, Laguna, led by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., alongside SMC Infrastructure Chairman and CEO Ramon S. Ang, MPTC and MPIC Chairman Manny V. Pangilinan, Acting DOTr Secretary Giovanni Lopez, and Toll Regulatory Board Executive Director Jose Arturo “Jay Art” Tugade.

“We are proud to announce the successful completion of interoperability between our electronic toll collection systems, Autosweep and Easytrip,” the two firms said in a joint statement. “Motorists will now only need one RFID and account to travel across the Luzon expressway network.”

The One RFID program now covers all major expressways in Luzon, including NLEX, SCTEX, TPLEX, Skyway, SLEX, STAR Tollway, NAIA Expressway, CAVITEX, CAVITEX C5 Link, CALAX, and MCX.

Motorists with existing Autosweep or Easytrip accounts may choose to register under One RFID, though maintaining separate accounts remains an option.

Initiated by the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and Toll Regulatory Board (TRB)**, the interoperability project fulfills the government’s goal to streamline toll operations and enhance mobility across the country’s major highways.

“The road to One RFID was not easy,” the companies noted. “It required extensive upgrades, system integration, and rigorous testing to ensure smooth and seamless interoperability.”

With full interoperability achieved, SMC Infrastructure and MPTC said they will focus on expanding registration access and continuously improving system performance for motorists.

“We thank the DOTr and TRB for their leadership and guidance in making this possible,” the joint statement added. “This is a shared victory for all stakeholders — public and private—who worked to deliver convenience, efficiency, and innovation to every Filipino motorist.”

The One RFID system marks a significant step toward a unified, world-class expressway network, reflecting the government’s vision for faster, safer, and smarter travel across Luzon.
