President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has appointed Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla as the new Ombudsman, Malacañang announced on Tuesday.
In a statement, the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) said Remulla is expected to uphold transparency, strengthen anti-corruption measures, and ensure fair and efficient administration of justice. “President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. reaffirms that transparency, fairness, and the rule of law will remain the guiding principles of this administration’s pursuit of a Bagong Pilipinas that truly serves the Filipino people,” the PCO added.

Remulla succeeds former Ombudsman Samuel Martires, whose term ended on July 27. Before his new appointment, Remulla served as the country’s 59th Justice Secretary since June 2022, during which he introduced major reforms to modernize the justice system, decongest prisons, and improve access to legal services.
The PCO emphasized that the Marcos administration remains firm in its anti-corruption campaign, especially amid public scrutiny of government infrastructure projects. “There will be no sacred cows, no exemptions, and no excuses. Public office is a public trust, and those who betray it will be held accountable,” the Palace stated.
PCO Acting Secretary Dave Gome said Remulla underwent a ery stringent vetting process through the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) and expressed confidence that he will perform his duties with impartiality and integrity.
