SUPREME COURT APPOINTS FIRST CHIEF MARSHAL OF JUDICIARY MARSHALS OFFICE

The Supreme Court En Banc has named retired Brigadier General Manuel R. Gaerlan as the first Chief Marshal of the newly established Office of the Judiciary Marshals (OJM).

He was sworn in by Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo on March 10, 2025, at the Supreme Court Session Hall.

Established under Republic Act No. 11691, or the Judiciary Marshals Act, the OJM was created to strengthen security measures for judges, court personnel, and judiciary properties amid rising threats against members of the Judiciary.

As Chief Marshal, Gaerlan will oversee nationwide security operations, supported by three Deputy Marshals assigned to Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

With over 30 years of experience in security, intelligence, and law enforcement, Gaerlan previously served in the Philippine National Police, retiring in 2018 with the rank of Police Brigadier General.
