Spanish Ambassador to the Philippines, H.E. Miguel Ultray Delgado, visited Subic Freeport on May 22, 2025, to explore prospects for increased Spanish investments in the area. Welcomed by Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) Chairman and Administrator Eduardo Jose L. Aliño, the ambassador was joined by a delegation that included Embassy Trade and Economic Counsellor Silvia Torices de la Varga, Commercial Attaché Pedro González Lendínez, and Metalyset CEO Jose Moreno Sanchez Perez.
Ambassador Delgado praised Subic Bay’s growing economic potential, describing it as a future logistics and trade hub in Southeast Asia. He cited a White Paper study by Spanish firm IDOM and FEMOZA that names Subic among the world’s top economic zones. “We see great promise here and expect to bring more Spanish firms to explore investment opportunities,” he said.

Metalyset, a Spanish industrial services firm with global operations, was presented as a strong model for future investments. The visit also included a briefing by Xantheng Subic International Corporation on Taiwanese-backed developments like the Tipo High-tech Eco Park and Subic Bay Gateway Park.
Chairman Aliño emphasized the Philippines’ enduring ties with Spain, symbolized by the historic Spanish Gate within the Freeport. He thanked the Spanish government for its support, especially in areas such as renewable energy, tourism, and maritime education.
Ambassador Delgado concluded, “By leveraging our shared history and mutual aspirations, we can build a future rooted in innovation, inclusivity, and progress.”
