Toyota Motor Philippines Corporation (TMP) is strengthening its drive toward cleaner mobility as it expands its electrified vehicle (xEV) lineup, reinforcing its commitment to the countryโs climate transition through a multi-pathway approach to carbon neutrality.
TMP recently rolled out two major developments: the introduction of the Toyota ATIV Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) โ now the most affordable electrified model in Toyotaโs local lineupโand the announcement of the Toyota bZ4X, the brandโs first Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) to be made available in the Philippine market.

The expansion of full-electric offerings from Lexus to Toyota-branded vehicles underscores TMPโs continued push to widen electrification choices under Toyotaโs โBeyond Zeroโ sustainability vision. Rather than relying on a single technology, Toyotaโs multi-pathway strategy promotes a mix of powertrain optionsโgasoline, diesel, hybrid electric, and battery electricโdesigned to match the countryโs road conditions, infrastructure readiness, and diverse mobility needs of Filipino motorists.
TMPโs local initiatives align with Toyota Motor Asiaโs regional targets announced during the Japan Mobility Show in October 2025, which include achieving a 30% xEV share of new vehicle sales in Southeast Asia by 2030 (โ30 by 30โ) and introducing 10 new xEV models in the region over the next three years.
The strategy also responds to the growing environmental impact of the transport sector, a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions. Broader adoption of electrified vehicles is seen as a key step in reducing emissions while managing increasing mobility demand.
โToyota Motor Philippines fully supports the Philippine governmentโs carbon reduction goals, which aim to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 75% by 2030,โ said TMP President Masando Hashimoto. โToday, Philippine customers can choose from four vehicle typesโgasoline, diesel, hybrid electric, and battery electricโbased on their lifestyle and location.โ
Expanding Electrification Options
Hybrid Electric Vehicles remain the most practical and accessible electrified solution for mass mobility in the Philippines, given their self-charging capability, fuel efficiency, and reliability amid limited charging infrastructure. The ATIV HEV, as TMPโs most affordable hybrid offering, is expected to make hybrid mobility more accessible. Its top-of-the-line HEV variant starts at โฑ1.19 million and delivers fuel efficiency of up to 31.3 kilometers per liter, based on UN Regulation No. 101 fuel consumption standards.
For customers with access to charging facilities, TMP is also entering the full-electric segment with the bZ4X, which offers zero tailpipe emissions and quiet, efficient operation. Its market introduction in December 2025 marks Toyotaโs first BEV under the Toyota brand in the Philippines.
While BEV models such as the Lexus RZ and UX have already been available, TMP continues to support both Toyota and Lexus customers through charging stations installed at select dealerships in Metro Manila and Metro Cebu, with plans to expand nationwide.
Growing xEV Adoption
Electrified vehicle adoption in the Philippines continues to gain momentum. The Department of Energy projects total xEV sales to reach 50,000 units by the end of 2025, more than double last yearโs level. Year-to-date data through September 2025 show 41,000 units sold, representing a 356% increase in new xEV registrations compared to the same period in 2024.
As of end-November 2025, TMP recorded 16,986 combined xEV sales from Toyota and Lexus models, reflecting a 45% year-on-year growth from 2024.
With the launch of the ATIV HEV and the introduction of the bZ4X alongside existing Lexus BEVs, TMP continues to strengthen its multi-pathway strategyโsupporting the countryโs transition toward cleaner, more sustainable mobility while giving Filipino motorists flexible choices for the road ahead.
