Gov. Susan Yap is UPAA Top Alumni Awardee

The University of the Philippines Alumni Association (UPAA) named Governor Susan Yap as one of the distinguished alumni in the field of Good Governance (Progressive Local Government). The Governor received the prestigious award last August 17 at the Ang Bahay ng Alumni, UP Diliman, Quezon City.

Gov. Yap, who is on her third and final term as governor of Tarlac, will join 95 other outstanding graduates who, according to UPAA President and Alumni Regent Robert Lester Aranton, are exceptional individuals and are being recognized for their established leadership, significant achievements, tireless service, and substantial contributions to their professions and the communities they chose to serve.

The UPAA Distinguished Alumni Award is one of the highest honors bestowed upon UP graduates who have made significant contributions to society through their professional achievements and dedication to public service.

Engr. Isidro A. Consunji (BSCE ’71) led the roster of Outstanding Awardees for this year is. He is this year’s lone recipient of the UPAA Most Distinguished Alumnus Award for his achievements in the real estate, construction, and mining industries.
This year’s UPAA Presidential Awardees are Secretary Teodoro J. Herbosa, Undersecretary Benedicto Ernesto R. Bitonio, Jr., and Ms. Rebecca F. Maronilla.
The UPAA Multigenerational Alumni Family Award is given to families with alumni in consecutive generations. In 2024, the Three-Generation recipients for this award are the Bernabe-Saddul, Bongco-Junio, Castrillo, Gonzales, Javelera-Bongco, Manalang, Navarro-Muego, Quimbo, and Sese families. Recognized for four consecutive generations are the Allas, Bernardo, Fuentebella, Javelosa, Kapunan-Abis, Luna, Serraon, and Torres families.

Meanwhile, The UPAA Distinguished Service Award for an Alumnus will be given to Atty. Oscar P. Palabyab.

Lifetime Achievement Awards were given to 12 individuals this year.

In a statement, Gov. Yap said that it is an honor to be named as one of the outstanding alumni of the University of the Philippines.

“I am flattered and honored to receive such an award from the UPAA. This award is dedicated to all Tarlaqueños,” she said.

The lady governor is a graduate of AB Linguistics at UP Diliman in 1987.—Arvin F. M. Cabalu (PIO)
