As School Year 2025–2026 officially opens, Senator Win Gatchalian is calling for intensified support for teachers amid the implementation of key reforms in the basic education sector.
Gatchalian, who chairs the Senate Committee on Basic Education, emphasized that the success of education reforms—such as the pilot implementation of the Strengthened Senior High School (SHS) Program in 800 schools and the phased rollout of the revised K to 12 (MATATAG) curriculum for Grades 2, 3, 5, and 8—rests heavily on teachers.
“Our teachers play a central role in ensuring the success of these reforms. We must give them the support they need to effectively fulfill their mission of shaping young minds,” Gatchalian said.
He underscored the need for continuous teacher training and the timely provision of quality teaching and learning materials. He also highlighted the importance of easing the workload of teachers by promoting digital solutions and fast-tracking the hiring of non-teaching staff to handle administrative duties.
Gatchalian reaffirmed his commitment to pushing policies that will empower educators and improve the overall quality of education in the country.
