Former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Undersecretary Arrey Perez has resigned from his post following allegations linking him to contractors โ an accusation that Batangas 1st District Representative Leandro Leviste later admitted was made in error.
In an article published by the Manila Standard, Leviste reportedly said he โmade a mistakeโ in naming Perez as the official allegedly involved with contractors. Shortly after news of Perezโs resignation broke, Leviste recanted his claim, clarifying that he was referring to another undersecretary, whose name he refused to disclose.

DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon confirmed Perezโs irrevocable resignation in a press conference held in Clark, noting that the former official stepped down โout of delicadezaโ to avoid hindering the ongoing investigation.
โPerez personally tendered his resignation because he didnโt want to be an obstacle to the process. However, the investigation will continue as directed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to cleanse the DPWH,โ Dizon said.
In his statement, Perez maintained his innocence, saying, โI resigned because I knew that the malicious insinuations against me will only turn public service into a political game. I will not let them use me to divert attention from what truly matters. Let the fight against corruption continue, and let me continue to do my work in it from a position of integrity.โ
Secretary Dizon emphasized that the departmentโs campaign against corruption will be guided strictly by facts and transparency, adding, โWe cannot clean up the DPWH or hold anyone accountable if the basis is mere speculation.โ
Despite the retraction, Dizon assured that the investigation will proceed to uphold accountability and maintain public trust in the agency.
