The Bureau of Immigration has launched a motu proprio investigation into an alleged unauthorized attempt by foreign nationals to enter and take control of a private resort facility in Subic Bay Freeport on April 8.
Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado ordered the immediate verification of the identities, immigration status, and activities of those involved, including American national Timothy Desmond, who was reportedly part of the group.
Viado also directed coordination with the Philippine National Police, the National Police Commission, and the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
A review of the individuals’ visa status and travel history is underway, along with an evaluation of possible inclusion in the immigration watchlist or blacklist and the initiation of deportation proceedings if violations are confirmed.
The BI reiterated that foreign nationals are prohibited from engaging in activities beyond the scope of their authorized stay, including involvement in local disputes or attempts to assert control over private entities without lawful authority.
The agency assured the public that it will act swiftly to uphold Philippine laws and protect national interest.
