PCG deploys six K9 rescue teams for Angeles City building collapse ops

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) deployed six K9 rescue teams to assist in ongoing search and rescue operations following the collapse of a structure in Barangay Balibago, Angeles City, Pampanga on May 24, 2026.

The Coast Guard K9 unit, composed of six Coast Guard Working Dogs (CGWDs) and 12 search and rescue personnel, arrived at the incident site at around 10:45 a.m., nearly an hour after the collapse was reported at 9:30 a.m.

Following a comprehensive search and rescue and safety briefing, the K9 teams began operations in Sector 1 at approximately 7:45 p.m. where CGWDs Summit, Theo, and Travis gave positive indications in a specific area of the collapsed structure.

Engineering teams and joint search and rescue personnel immediately conducted debris extraction operations in the identified area, leading to the retrieval of one cadaver at around 3:40 a.m. on May 25.

According to PCG Spokesperson Noemie Cayabyab, the Coast Guard Working Dogs previously demonstrated effective operational performance during search and rescue operations in the 2025 Iruhin West landslide incident in Tagaytay City.

“The Philippine Coast Guard remains fully committed to supporting inter-agency humanitarian assistance and disaster response operations to ensure the safety and welfare of affected families,” Commodore Cayabyab said.

“Through the Intensified Community Assistance, Awareness, Response, and Enforcement (iCARE) campaign, the PCG strives to deliver public service fast and right wherever needed, in support of President Ferdinand R Marcos Jr’s vision of a Bagong Pilipinas,” she added.
