Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala has stepped down as chairman of Globe Telecom, with Cezar “Bong” Consing taking over the role following the company’s recent annual stockholders’ meeting.
The leadership transition was formalized during Globe’s first organizational meeting, marking the end of Zobel de Ayala’s decades-long tenure. He will remain active within the group as chairman of AsiaCom Philippines, Inc., a joint venture between Ayala Corporation and Singtel.

Zobel de Ayala expressed confidence in his successor, citing Consing’s leadership track record within the Ayala Group.
“Bong has long been a valued leader within the Ayala Group and has demonstrated clarity of judgment, discipline in execution, and a deep commitment to strengthening the institutions he serves,” he said. “With his leadership, we are confident Globe will continue to build on its strong foundations and play an even greater role in enabling opportunity, progress, and inclusion in the years ahead.”
Consing brings extensive experience in finance and global markets. Before assuming the top post at Ayala Corporation, he served as president and chief executive officer of Bank of the Philippine Islands from 2013 to 2021, leading the bank through sustained growth and transformation.
Earlier in his career, he spent nearly two decades with J.P. Morgan, holding senior leadership roles across Asia Pacific investment banking, including as president of J.P. Morgan Securities Asia. He also served as partner and co-head for Asia at The Rohatyn Group.
Consing currently serves as chairman of ACEN Corporation and as vice chairman of both Bank of the Philippine Islands and Ayala Land, Inc., alongside other leadership roles across the Ayala Group and various business and civic organizations.
With Consing at the helm, Globe is expected to further strengthen its position as a key player in connectivity, innovation, and digital enablement, supporting Filipinos and businesses in an increasingly digital economy.
